Rowdy is a 9-year-old boy from Prineville, OR. The youngest of 5 children, Rowdy is an active and outgoing young man who enjoys baseball, football, wrestling and playing with his friends and family.
Rowdy was diagnosed with Aplastic Anemia on October 15, 2018 after a check up with his regular pediatrician revealed some alarming blood results. Rowdy and his family were transferred to Doernbecher Children’s Hospital in Portland where they remain today seeking treatment for Rowdy’s disease.
After genetic testing showed Rowdy did not have a compatible sibling match, he underwent aggressive immunosuppressive therapy. This therapy has not been successful for Rowdy to date and plans for a transplant, with an outside donor, are currently underway. A transplant will require many months away from home until his new bone morrow begins to produce new blood and platelets on its own.
While we are still praying for miraculous healing for Rowdy, we feel very fortunate that Rowdy has numerous potential matches from “Be the match” that will give him the opportunity to go on and live a healthy and long life. We are thankful for his wonderful medical team and the outpouring of support for our family during this difficult time.
