Rowdy ware
December 2018
Rowdy is a 9-year-old boy from Prineville, OR. The youngest of 5 children, Rowdy is an active and outgoing young man who enjoys baseball, football, wrestling and playing with his friends and family.
Rowdy was diagnosed with Aplastic Anemia on October 15, 2018 after a check-up with his pediatrician revealed alarming blood results. Rowdy and his family were transferred to Doernbecher Children’s Hospital in Portland where they remain today seeking treatment for the disease.
After genetic testing showed Rowdy did not have a compatible sibling match, he underwent aggressive immunosuppressive therapy. This therapy has not been successful to date and plans for a transplant with an outside donor are currently underway. A transplant will require many months away from home until his new bone marrow begins to produce new blood and platelets on its own.
While we are still praying for miraculous healing for Rowdy, we feel very fortunate that he has numerous potential matches from “Be the Match” that will give him the opportunity to go on and live a healthy and long life. We are thankful for his wonderful medical team and the outpouring of support for our family during this difficult time.
